Seminar “Diplomatic Skills”
Executive Seminar “Diplomatic Skills” for Diplomats from Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Pacific

The Executive Seminar on Diplomatic Skills (DS) offers diplomats the opportunity to expand their competence in this field and grapple with global issues.
The three-week course imparts a comprehensive understanding of German foreign policy and global challenges such as EU enlargement, the conflict in Ukraine, the conflict in the Middle East, migration, climate change and the role of the media in diplomacy. Participants have the opportunity to hone their communicative skills through practical training sessions on negotiation and media work. The programme also includes excursions to Brussels or Geneva, which offer insights into international organisations and diplomatic negotiations, and dialogue with high-ranking representatives from government, parliament and civil society, which enables participants to become acquainted with German and European perspectives.
As well as professional content, cultural and social activities are offered, which promote exchange and a sense of community and expand the diplomats’ networks. The programme objective is to teach participants new knowledge and give them the chance to acquire new perspectives through the wide range of countries represented, learn from one another’s experiences and form new networks.
