Executive Seminar for Diplomats on Sustainable Economy

The Executive Seminar for Diplomats on Sustainable Economy (WI) brings together diplomats in order to examine the realities and challenges of a sustainable economic transformation and learn lessons for national and multinational contexts.

The two-week programme incorporates visits to federal ministries and meetings with members of the German Bundestag, representatives from various German institutions and associations from the areas of business and industry as well as from other non-governmental organisations. During a study trip to a German Land the participants are introduced to various sustainable business practices in industrial contexts and gain insights into future challenges, the bio economy and the risks associated with climate change.

Other topics include the restructuring of global (trade) partnerships, international development cooperation, financing issues, the decarbonisation of energy supply and the interface between business and human rights. In addition, participants have the opportunity to build on their negotiating skills in a one-day training session and receive insights into German culture throughout the entire course.

The broad participant structure representing various countries creates space for intensive exchange of experiences and ideas. The programme fosters intercultural cooperation and creates an inclusive environment which enables participants to develop practicable solutions while broadening their knowledge and skills in an international context.
