Welcome to Diplomacy by Networking – Training for International Diplomats by the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.
The content of the Training for International Diplomats is shaped by the objectives of German and European foreign policy, such as the preservation of peace, the protection of human rights, the promotion of democracy and good governance, the preservation of natural resources, the fair structuring of global trade, and the reduction of poverty. In more than 15 different courses offered annually, the positions of our foreign policy are explained, while competencies for global cooperation are also taught. The formats range from classic lectures to simulations and training sessions to rallies across Germany. The courses last between two and eight weeks and are conducted in German, English, or French. Each year, over 300 guests from around 180 countries are invited to participate.
History
When the fall of the Berlin Wall initiated a political shift towards freedom, a new awareness emerged that the long-desired and newly gained freedom would not be sustainable without a shared responsibility for a peaceful world order. This shared political aspiration for freedom was the foundation of the initiative by then Foreign Secretary Hans-Dietrich Genscher, which led to the establishment of the International Diplomatic Training Programme in 1992. Initially intended to support the development of young democracies in Central and Eastern Europe, the Foreign Office's international programmes have since continuously evolved. At no other time has cooperative interaction among all nations been as crucial as it is today, in the face of climate change and a globally interconnected economy. This is why the constant adaptation and expansion of the Training for International Diplomats is so essential.
