„Culture is knowing the best that has been thought and said in the world.“
Before participating in the 9th Executive Seminar for Diplomats from China,my perception of Germany was limited to its world-leading industrial prowess and the fame of Munich’s beer. However, visiting Berlin and Hamburg has significantly broadened my understanding of this country, which has impressed me with its combination of industrial precision and artistic charm.
During the seminar, we engaged in comprehensive discussions on a range of political, economic and cultural issues. We identified shared interests and common goals in many areas such as facilitating trade, tackling global climate change and cooperating closely on the international stage to uphold world peace. These shared priorities foster connections and strengthen the bonds of friendship between us. Even though we have differing views or positions on certain matters, our dialogue and collective efforts enable us to deepen mutual understanding and work towards effective solutions.
I would like to commend the innovative guest programme organised by our German colleagues, which made the entire trip truly exceptional. Highlights included visiting the iconic Unter den Linden boulevard in Berlin, with its distinctly European style; attending a Euroleague basketball match; enjoying a stirring symphony in the Elbphilharmonie Concert Hall; and taking a serene winter cruise on a tranquil lake. These experiences allowed us to fully appreciate the charm of Germany, its architectural diversity and its people-oriented cities.
Last but not least, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the Federal Foreign Office for facilitating this invaluable opportunity. I am also deeply grateful for the thoughtful arrangements made by Ambassador Martin Fleischer, Ms Clara Lauer, Ms Leonie Michel, and Mr Niklas Kreis-Breunig. Despite the winter cold, we, the delegation of young Chinese diplomats, experienced the warmth of German hospitality and witnessed first-hand how cultural diversity and inclusiveness can provide effective solutions to the challenges facing our world. We look forward to more such opportunities to exchange ideas, foster mutual learning and achieve progress together.
